The Bombo Headland Landcare Project grew out of a desire to regenerate and revegetate a local area to create a haven in which passive recreation – walking cycling, fishing and observation of native plants and animals could take place.

History
One of the oldest Landcare groups in Australia formed in 1988 by locals Carl Glaister, Bob King and Peter Knott. It is a regular site for National Tree Day plantings with Kiama High School.
Work Plan
Our objective is to restore the Littoral Rainforest and replace the dominant exotic weeds of Blackberry, Kikuya and Lantana.
Worst weed!
Kikuya is the main weed that impacts new plantings, but Asparagus Fern is an increasing problem and is very hard to reach and manage on the steep cliff edges.
Favourite plant and why?
It would have to be the Morten Bay Fig. It is such a long-lived, majestic tree that bring in wildlife like the grey-headed flying fox that spread native seeds for natural regeneration. Their root structure makes them amazing engineers of the hillsides, holding the rocky slopes together.
Where to find the group
The group meets on the second Saturday of the month, in the afternoon. Locations vary across the large site. Please contact us to be added to our notification list.
