The weather was perfect for the Landcare Illawarra 2024 AGM and 25th Birthday celebrations at Curry’s Mountains Estate on Saturday 26 October.
Andy McNeil led had a capacity crowd for the tour of the successful regeneration that has transformed the site from a dairy farm over 20 years ago to a thriving site of biodiversity and complexity.
Our vice chair Ailee Calderbank gave a wonderful overview of the 25 years of Landcare in the Illawarra, and the people behind the projects, with a special tribute to Richard Scarbough who led the Woodland and Rainforest project for so many years.
We were delighted that the very first coordinator for Landcare Illawarra Alisdair Stratton was able to say a few words, and it was wonderful to be able to present our steadfast Secretary, Ruth Jenkins, with a life time membership. She has been a constant force in the organisation for so many years. Thank you, Ruth!
Then it was time for some good food, catching up with past colleagues and collaborators, and some great music.
Our thanks to everyone who joined us for this special celebration, and to Andy McNeil and Flash, and Curry’s Mountain Estate. Your wonderful property was prefect for this outdoor celebration and we greatly appreciate the work you put into making it such a success.
Landcare is about plants, yes, but we all know it is the people who make it such a special community.
