Location
The group is focused on planting species that will stabilise the banks, and help the creek recover from extreme weather events. We are targeting Hewitts Creek and its tributaries, Thirroul.
History
Hewitts Creek Community Landcare is a group of local residents who care about the creeks and waterways that run through our backyards in Thirroul. We organise revegetation and creek improvement activities that help to improve the condition of our creek.
Work Plan
Established in 2024 by local resident Bec Wood with a grant from Sydney Water for riparian repair, the group is focused on planting species that will stabilise the banks, and help in the recovery from extreme weather events and flooding.
Worst weed!
Madeira Vine – its just pure evil! Staying on top of new shoots deposited in the creek after floods and preventing it from taking hold is a forever battle that we refuse to loose!
Favourite plant and why
Sandpaper fig – Its roots are one of the best at holding together the river bank and the fruit it provides is food for many birds such as King Parrots, Green Catbirds, Satin Bowerbirds, Currawongs and Rosellas.
Where to find the group
