Encouraging natural regeneration of the many rainforest species already thriving in a popular public reserve.

Location
Jerrara Dam Reserve on Mount Brandon Road, Jerrara, at the foot of Saddleback Mountain.
History
The Jamberoo Valley Ratepayers and Residents Association (JVRRA) began discussions with Landcare in 2025 about the broader site and concerns about the ongoing maintenance of this parcel of community land. Community meetings and guided walks reintroduced many locals to the area. The Landcare group will begin work in February 2026.
Work plan
The reserve covers 54 acres, and the group will start by working in small blocks of around 200 m², focusing on weed management and encouraging natural regeneration of the many rainforest species already thriving in other parts of the reserve. Initially, work will focus along the edges of the tracks to ensure accessibility for all participants, with steeper areas tackled at a later stage.
Worst weed!
Lantana is widespread across the site, forming dense thickets along the tracks and requiring priority management. Turkey Rhubarb is also smothering many plants and will be progressively removed from each work area.
Favorite plant and why
There are so many thriving rainforest species across the site. We love them all and are keen to support and encourage their natural regeneration.
2026 technical support
Landcare Illawarra will provide technical support for the new group. For the first six months Proust Landscape Services will support the Thursday group and Ailee Calderbank will support the Sunday group, providing guidance on bush regeneration techniques.
Where to find the group
The group will meet on the first Thursday and the third Sunday each month. The Thursday session will start at 9am and the Sunday session at 2pm. Each two-hour session will be followed by morning or afternoon tea. Please contact us to the added to the notification list on email.
