Location: Kiama
Loves Bay Landcare is a group of local volunteers restoring a creek line into Loves Bay in Kiama Heights.

Location
The council reserve at the end of Elanora Road, Kiama Heights, at the start of the final section of the Kiama Coast Walk to Werri Beach.
History
The group was formed in 2026 by local residents concerned about weed management at this important and well-visited coastal site in their backyard.
Work plan
The long-term aim is to restore a corridor of Littoral Rainforest that would once have extended from Saddleback Mountain to the sea through this area. Work will begin by creating access along a path to the creek, then gradually expanding along the creek line. Weed management will focus on removing species that smother local native plants.
Worst weed!
Lantana dominates much of the site, with broad-leaf and narrow-leaf Privet and Cassia as other key woody weeds. Coastal Morning Glory, Moth Vine, and Turkey Rhubarb also require ongoing management.
Favorite plant and why
We’re excited about the opportunity to reintroduce the Cabbage Tree Palm to the site. It’s also encouraging to see Bleeding Hearts thriving, and we hope to use it more widely as a pioneer species.
2026 technical support
Landcare Illawarra will provide technical support for the group. Local horticulturalist Carl Glaister will lead the group for the first six months, providing guidance on bush regeneration techniques.
Where to find the group
The group meets on the fourth Saturday of the month at 9am. We work until 11am, followed by morning tea. Please contact us to the added to the notification list on email and WhatsApp
