Join us to help secure the future of Kiama’s iconic Cabbage Tree Palms with a morning of weeding around a thriving patch of remnant and regenerating palms.

Our Future-proofing the Cabbage Tree Palm project aims to encourage the natural regeneration of remnant Cabbage Tree Palms (Livistona australis) across the district, while also raising awareness among landholders about the importance of protecting existing trees through fencing or new plantings.
A Taste of Paradise is a working organic farm in Broughton Village, focused on supporting disadvantaged and at-risk youth. In 2006, the owners fenced off an east–west wildlife corridor containing remnant Cabbage Tree Palms and subtropical rainforest vegetation. Without cattle grazing, natural regeneration has flourished, with some emerging palms now over three metres high. A range of rainforest species is also thriving. It is an excellent example of what can be achieved simply by protecting existing habitat—no planting required.
Like all restoration sites, however, it still needs ongoing maintenance. Come along to help remove invasive weeds, learn more about the Cabbage Tree Palm and the vegetation communities of the area, and meet others who care about the local environment.
We’ll finish the session with a light lunch. Free and open to all.
